2. Belle Hôtesse - Morne Léger

Distance 12.5 km
Elevation Gain 650 m
Estimated Duration 8 h

Description

This stage is known as the muddiest of the GR, a fact unanimously highlighted by testimonies left in the guestbook at Belle Hôtesse: mud is the topic of all conversations!

Right from the exit of the shelter, the route engages on a steep and muddy path. Progress may be slowed down by muddy areas, but overall, the path maintains a good pace. The first third of the stage, known as "La Couronne," features the steepest climbs. Despite this, the trail, well-marked through the forest, leaves no doubt as to the direction to follow.

A short break is mandatory at the intersection with the high voltage line, marking the beginning of the second third of the stage. This segment offers some slightly technical river crossings, without presenting any major difficulty.

Lunch is welcome at the Fendre-Fouque crossing, before starting the last third of the stage. With legs beginning to feel the fatigue, it is fortunate that this portion is the easiest. To reach the shelter, turn before the summit of Morne Léger, the direction is well indicated by a sign.
