Marion and Eva, mother and daughter, aged 63 and 33, traverse the GR from Sainte Rose to Montebello (Petit-Bourg) in 5 days
We were well-prepared and experienced (Colombian mountains, Venezuelan mountains, White Mountains, Vermont (Vermud :)) Mountains (Long Trail) near Canada, and parts of the Appalachian Trail and of course on many islands in the Caribbean).
With bags: 7.8 kg + 3.5 kg of water for Marion and 9.5 kg + 3.5 kg of water for Eva. Bags kept all along.
Beautiful and challenging hike. Would do it again when stage 4 (Trois Crêtes - Frébault) and 5 (Frébault - Citerne) are better maintained. You are really in the middle of nowhere.

Bruno and Antoine, father and son, aged 50 and 22, traverse the GR from Bains Jaunes to Mamelles in 3 days
Experienced walkers, we did not prepare at all for this little adventure. Worse, the day before, we had a little party…
With bags of more than 15kg kept all along.
It was nice. The difficulty class of the GR-G1 on this section remains difficult. I have walked in many places, and this GR is rather high in the ranking of "sporty" trails. Speed and performance have no place here. Prefer safety and enjoy the landscape. If you wait for 3 days of "great weather", you will rarely leave, but still be mindful of the weather. Keeping the GR alive is a good idea, but it will only be possible if public authorities, municipalities, or associations take an interest. Happy hiking!
Here is the complete story of the traverse, it contains the details of each stage with photos as well as preparation tips to overcome the difficulties of this GR. Happy reading! 👉 The full story (in french) 👈
As a bonus, the GPX track. It is neither essential nor highly accurate in some places, but it is reassuring when you are not yet familiar with the GR-G1. 👉 Link coming soon 👈
Gilles, Matthieu, Jérôme, and Vincent, 4 friends living in Guadeloupe, complete the GR in 4 days from South to North.
Due to these 2 incidents, the group strongly advises against taking the path in stage La Citerne - Morne Incapable or Frébault due to its danger.
We completed the GR of Guadeloupe in 4 days, covering a total of: 100.89 kilometers; 5759m of elevation gain; 35h06min of hiking; an average of 2.9 km/h for a total of 84h25min48s. The return and the next day at the gîte were very welcoming, warm, comforting, and restorative, recounting the exploits as well as the difficulties and antics of the GR. A return to reality, and perhaps towards another challenge to take on...
